Dota 2 Lane Creep XP: Current Values and Upgrade Cycles

Melee creeps give 57 XP, ranged creeps give 69 XP, and siege creeps give 88 XP. The 7½-minute upgrade cycle does not increase those XP bounties.

Does lane creep XP increase every 7.5 minutes?

No—the XP bounty stays fixed

Do not multiply lane creep XP by the normal 7½-minute upgrade cycle. Current unit data assigns fixed XP bounties of 57 to a melee creep, 69 to a ranged creep, and 88 to a siege creep.

The confusion comes from older descriptions of lane creeps “upgrading” every 7.5 minutes. Valve’s notes discuss that cycle for creep health and gold-bounty growth, while XP changes are listed separately. In other words, creep strength and gold can scale without the XP bounty scaling.

A basic wave with three melee creeps and one ranged creep therefore contains 240 XP before any extra units are added: 3 × 57 + 69.

What the 7.5-minute cycle changes

The regular upgrade cycle makes lane creeps tougher and changes their gold economy over time. It is not an XP multiplier. This distinction matters when estimating how many waves a hero needs for a level: use the fixed XP bounty and count the actual creeps in each wave.

Practical rule: calculate XP from the creep types present. Do not add a percentage for 7:30, 15:00, 22:30, or later upgrade cycles.

How to use this in lane

  • Track the ranged creep: at 69 XP, it is worth more experience than one melee creep and often decides an early level timing.
  • Count the real wave: extra melee, ranged, or siege creeps change the total because they add another fixed bounty—not because existing creeps gained XP.
  • Separate XP from gold: last-hit gold and nearby XP follow different rules. A hero can receive nearby XP without landing the killing blow.
  • Treat denies separately: Valve removed the denier’s old XP reward in 7.20 and gave the denier a portion of gold instead. Do not use older deny-XP tables.

Sources and limits

  • Valve’s Dueling Fates notes document the 57 melee / 69 ranged XP split and a 240-XP standard wave.
  • Valve’s 6.87 notes distinguish health and gold-bounty upgrades from separate melee/ranged XP changes.
  • Valve’s 7.20 notes remove the denier’s old XP reward and introduce a gold reward instead.
  • The 57, 69, and 88 values above were rechecked in the current shipping client’s lane-creep unit definitions on August 13, 2026.

Dota patches can change creep composition, spawn schedules, or bounty values. This page intentionally answers the XP question without carrying forward old gold, deny, or wave-composition tables as if they were permanent.
